Foolproof Methods To Stop Fogging Up Your Goggles

Those of us who wear safety goggles for work or a sport may have trouble with it fogging up constantly. Short of taking a break to let the fog dissipate every hour or even more frequently, you may be wondering what you can do to stop fogging up goggles. If you have yet to try out any remedies that work, read on to find out some of our top tips and suggestions in this article.

Ensure Your Goggles Are A Good Fit

The reason goggles fog up the way they do is because of a difference in temperature between the outside and inside of your goggles. If you wear a full set of headgear including a mask and your goggles or mask are not fitting enough, this can allow the hot air from your breath to escape and create condensation on your goggles. A pair of well-fitting goggles may not be able to prevent fogging from happening entirely, as the external temperature also plays a factor. However, you may find that it happens less frequently and that you feel more comfortable.

Wash Your Goggles with Soap and Water or Shaving Cream

Are the lenses of your goggles dirty or grimy? Needless to say, having a film of residue on your lenses is not exactly conducive to clear vision. Try washing your goggles with soap and water after each use. It has even been said that this can leave a coating that resists fogging on the lenses!

If you have shaving cream to spare, you may want to consider washing your goggles with that. Simply apply enough to cover both sides of the lenses and wash off with water. This technique has been used to prevent fogging on bathroom mirrors and just might work on your goggles, too!

Try an Anti-Fogging Spray or Wipe

You may find that the above home remedies don’t work for you. When that’s the case, it’s time to invest in a product that’s designed specifically for anti-fogging. Sprays and wipes can be bought in stores or online – all you have to do is completely spray or wipe your lenses with them. However, take note that this has to be done regularly and may not be suitable for every piece of eyewear. Also, depending on body chemistry, these remedies may only yield short term results, or might not work at all.
